Ice viscosity is more sensitive to stress than commonly assumed

چکیده
Abstract Accurate representation of the viscous flow ice is fundamental to understanding glacier dynamics and projecting sea-level rise. Ice viscosity often described by a simple but largely untested uncalibrated constitutive relation, Glen’s Flow Law, wherein rate deformation proportional stress raised power n . The value = 3 commonly prescribed in ice-flow models, though observations experiments support range values across stresses temperatures found on Earth. Here, we leverage recent remotely-sensed Antarctic shelves show that Law approximates with 4.1 ± 0.4 fast-flowing areas. are therefore more sensitive changes than most models allow. By calibrating governing equation deformation, our result pathway towards improving projections future change.

p63 is more sensitive and specific than 34βE12 to differentiate adenocarcinoma of prostate from cancer mimickers
Objective(s): Prostate cancer is the world’s leading cause of cancer and the second cause of cancer-related death in men after lung cancer. Differentiation of prostate adenocarcinoma from benign prostate lesions and hyperplasia sometimes cannot be done on the basis of morphologic findings. Considering the fact that in the prostate adenocarcinoma there is no basal cell layer, basal cell markers ...

متن کاملIs Apis mellifera more sensitive to insecticides than other insects?
BACKGROUND Honey bees (Apis mellifera L.) are among the most important pollinators in natural and agricultural settings. They commonly encounter insecticides, and the effects of insecticides on honey bees have been frequently noted. It has been suggested that honey bees may be (as a species) uniquely sensitive to insecticides, although no comparative toxicology study has been undertaken to exam...
متن کاملIn vitro activation of NAD-dependent alcohol dehydrogenases by Nudix hydrolases is more widespread than assumed.
In the Gram-positive methylotroph Bacillus methanolicus, methanol oxidation is catalyzed by an NAD-dependent methanol dehydrogenase (Mdh) that belongs to the type III alcohol dehydrogenase (Adh) family. It was previously shown that the in vitro activity of B. methanolicus Mdh is increased by the endogenous activator protein Act, a Nudix hydrolase. Here we show that this feature is not unique, b...
